Brandywine English Shepherd Litter 2011

Seven little Roseannadannas born July 26 out of Caledonia Danny Boy x Brandywine Briar Rose.  This is Rosie's first litter.

Three girls (two black and white, one tri) and four boys (two black and white, one tri, one sable who had a hard delivery and is touch-and-go).  Rosie is a great Mom.

Check the main blog page regularly for updates.  All pups are launched in their forever homes; I'll be updating their achievements on the main blog as they go forth in the world representing the Brandywine nameWe're proud of our little Roseannadannas!

We think that Danny's softness and biddability will nicely balance Rosie's harder edges and task-orientation.  Both dogs are natural small-farm stockdogs, which is a diplomatic way of saying that what they have accomplished is not a result of their respective owners' expertise as stockdog trainers.

Rosie is a fine little SAR trailing dog.

Briar Rose

Danny Boy

Both dogs are bold and friendly with strangers, kid-friendly, and very solid and confident.  Both are inherently capable of chilling out when nothing is up, but bringing it when the situation calls for it.

This should be a varied litter in appearance and have a range of temperaments. Small-to-medium build, leggy. Natural stockdogs. I expect a range of temperaments from softer/more biddable to sharper/more task-oriented, but all should be outgoing, confident, kid-loving, hard-working dogs with strong character. Suitable for farm work, SAR, service, competitive dog sports, dog trainers' assistants, acting and modeling. These strong, confident, intelligent dogs will require strong, confident, thoughtful owners who have jobs for them.

We place on a contract, and will check references. No sales to show homes -- and yes, the contract covers that, and a great deal else.

Pups will be raised with every attention to their development and socialization, and evaluated both by the breeder and by an outside examiner before placement. When we are raising a litter, that's our top priority.

Taking names of prospective owners now; applications when a pregnancy is confirmed; deposits when the litter is on the ground.

  1. For your own safety and mental well-being, please note that while initial puppy buyer interviews will be conducted under the protocols set forth in the Geneva Conventions, Phase II includes sensory deprivation, flagellation and a mandatory colonoscopy.

Still, they should be damn fine pups.

  3. Being that this is "Brandywine Boys' Farm," I am predicting a litter of 8 boys and 1 girl.

All tricolors and the girl, of course, all ebil as Pip wants Rosie to feel what she had to go through.

    :-D ;-D :-D

  4. Dorene, thus far 80% of the folks on my list are leaning towards boys.

I therefore believe I have probably found the cure for the testicle fertilizer that infects the soil here.

I predict a litter of snarky, manipulative, genius girlpuppies with world domination plans.

  8. We adopted a dog in 2011 from the humane society that looks very much like your Briar Rose. At the time we got him in November they said he was about 4 months old and came on a truck from Ohio where there were too many dogs and relocated to a shelter near us in Elizabeth pa. His estimated birth month would be in July around the same time we noticed your briar rose had a litter. We were just curious if it were possible we had one of her pups. Our dog cooper is a tricolor male mostly sable with black tipped floppy ears and a little black on cheeks. We noticed your litter had one tricolor male. He certainly has the nose and energy to be related. Was just curious. We always have wondered and we LOVE our crazy and smart dog. I thought maybe dogs with a bad mdr1 gene or something might get sent out for adoption.

    1. So I'm wondering what part of the description of our puppy-raising and placement, contract and followup, microchip permanently registered to me, would suggest that a puppy we brought into the world would end up in a random dog pound at four months of age?

In a word, no, Brandywine Sagan, (the tri male from this litter) was not abandoned in the pound two months after his owner took him home.

Alas, there are plenty of breeders in Ohio who cannot account for the puppies they sell to all comers, and don't see a problem with that fact.
